About Mood Music

Mood Music is a project about listening as much as making. We build mixtape zines — playlists sequenced like old‑school tapes but reimagined for print and QR. Each issue is a little time capsule, stitched together from late‑night obsessions, record‑store hunts, and rabbit‑hole dives. We treat curation as its own kind of art: the page layout matters as much as the song choice, the transitions as much as the tracks. It’s music discovery wrapped in paper, ink, and a wink of weird magic.

Our Process

Every issue begins with a mood — a spark, a phrase, sometimes just a single track that demands company. From there we build a flow, weaving genres and eras until the playlist feels inevitable, like a story told in sound. Then we translate it to print: QR codes for instant listening, covers and spreads designed by hand, notes and details that make it feel tactile. We don’t want to just give you songs; we want to give you an experience you can hold, scan, and share. Each zine is both a mixtape and a map — a guide to where our ears and hearts have been, and an open invitation to follow along.

Why We Do This

Mood Music is a love letter to the mixtape — not just the songs, but the act of sharing them. Making a mix was always about more than music; it was about connection, about saying something you couldn’t put into words. Our zines carry that same spirit into the present. We print them because paper lasts, because flipping through pages changes how you listen, and because DIY publishing is part of the culture we came from. By folding playlists into zines, we keep that tradition alive — part memory, part experiment, part community signal.
